 Pegasus Coffee is seeking an exceptional candidate to assume the role of Roaster Trainee at our Bainbridge Island, WA roastery. A true pioneer of specialty coffee roasting and retailing in the Seattle area, Pegasus has been hand-roasting delicious coffee on Bainbridge Island since 1979. Our tradition of coffee excellence continues today with highly loyal customers across the grocery, restaurant, bakery, office and café channels, in addition to three of our own Pegasus-branded Coffee Houses and Bars.

 We’re looking for someone to join our tight-knit, highly experienced team with similar values of hard work and integrity, bringing a detail-oriented approach and sincere effort each and every day.

Take on these Initial Responsibilities…

  • Prepare green coffee batches and assemble product packaging accurately and efficiently.
  • Package roasted coffee.
  • Prepare orders for local delivery as well as shipments for USPS, FedEx, and UPS pickup.
  • Assist in maintaining roastery cleanliness and orderliness.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of packaging materials and supplies.

 …while learning to do the following:

  • Bucket, blend and roast coffee consistent with proprietary recipes and profiles
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation for green coffee and production inventory, and ensure daily production logs are accurate.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly cleaning and maintenance of roasting equipment
  • Learning and using roasting software
  • Work with Director of Coffee to profile coffees as well as develop roasting parameters and tasting notes for new coffees
  • Work with Director of Coffee and Pegasus’ cold brew co-packing partner(s) to ensure Pegasus recipes and quality standards are followed
  • Be an integral part of an ambitious company, with an opportunity to grow with it

 Time Commitment

This is a part-time hourly position with the significant potential for growth within the company. Candidates are expected to stay with the company at least 1 year. Perks include free roasted coffee and ongoing apprenticeship opportunities in coffee cupping, sensory awareness and brewing, in addition to Roasting. Must be available a minimum of three days, Monday – Thursday.

Compensation

Initial Rate: $17/hour

After 6 months: $18/hour + promotion to Production Roaster (assuming successful track record)

After 12 months: $19/hour (assuming successful track record)

After 18 months: $20/hour + promotion to Experienced Roaster (assuming successful track record)
