Islandcraft CEO David Adler has become Head of Coffee and Roasting Operations for Pegasus, and the entire Islandcraft team joined the recently combined company
BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, WA – Pegasus Coffee, one of the elite forefathers of Pacific Northwest specialty coffee roasting, today announced it has merged with Islandcraft Coffee Roasters, also located on Bainbridge Island, WA. The merger comes in connection with Pegasus’ recent change in ownership, and positions it for future growth.
Islandcraft Coffee Roasters is an artisanal coffee roasting company founded by Dr. David Adler and Kris Carroll in 2005. In April 2019, Pegasus’ and Islandcraft’s production merged and Adler became Head of Coffee and Roasting Operations for both companies.
“I’m thrilled to be partnering with David to enhance Pegasus’ product offerings, and to prepare this historic business for an exciting new phase,” said Pegasus owner and President, Matt Grady.
“It is a privilege to become part of the Pegasus Coffee tradition and to embark on a new chapter together,” Dr. Adler said. “Matt and I share a passion for quality in the cup, and we both believe quality is best achieved through direct collaborations with coffee farmers.”
What It Means For Customers
The merger brings together Pegasus’ time-tested recipes with Islandcraft’s exacting quality standards and direct trade relationships. The new Pegasus will delight its long-time customers with updated versions of traditional blends, while also introducing a new line of small-lot, seasonal, single-origin coffees called “New Arrivals”. Pegasus will continue to roast 100% of its beans in small batches on Bainbridge Island, as it has since inception in 1979.
“Though we plan to phase out the Islandcraft name over time,” said Mr. Grady, “the company’s skilled team of professionals will all remain in place and become integral to Pegasus’ business. We couldn’t be more excited to see what these two Island-based roasting businesses will achieve together in the years ahead.”
